IBAA will be hosting our next Quarterly Luncheon on Wednesday, October 20th at the Iowa City Municipal Airport. Jet Air, Inc. has graciously offered to host our event. The luncheon starts at 11:30 for socializing with lunch following at 12:00 and then our speaker.
Our speaker will be Dr. Thomas Schnell of the University of Iowa's Operator Performance Laboratory (OPL). The OPL is a world-renowned flight test laboratory that conducts research on human-in-the-loop and intelligent autonomous systems to increase efficiency, inter-operability, and safety. The lab has been in operation for 21 years with 2,400 hours of flight test and 305-plus projects. OPL has 11 instrumented aircraft (six manned, five unmanned) and six flight simulators. Systems of particular interest include flight decks, airborne sensor systems, unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) systems, and automotive user interface systems.
Dr. Schnell has been kind enough to offer a tour of the facility and discuss what how the OPL operates. This will be a very interesting tour of some very unique facilities here in the state of Iowa.
